Wednesday, June 9th – Technical Communication Excellence: Crucial New Skills for the Coming Boom

Speaker: Paul Gustafson

Description

As the pandemic eases, the economy improves, and we begin to settle into the new normal, technical writers see increasing global competition, advancing disregard for our profession, and dwindling resources leading to more difficult times. Others see vast largely untapped opportunities. This month, Paul Gustafson, CEO of Expert Support, perhaps Silicon Valley’s premier technical communication consulting firm for the last three decades, will present observations drawn from his unique vantage post working with clients ranging from industry titans to tiny start-ups. Paul will share his vision of an emerging, bright, near-term future for technical communication, and the crucial new skills required to realize it.

About the Speaker

Paul Gustafson is the CEO of Expert Support, which helps recruit, hire, train, and place technical writers. In his own words, “[his] destiny [is] to surf each leading edge wave of technological innovation, work closely with the best and brightest engineers on the planet, and help them explain their ideas to others.” He can be reached on Twitter at @psgustafson or on LinkedIn.

Wednesday, May 12th – How COVID Changed Tech Comm Careers

Speaker: Andrew Davis

Description

The pandemic rewrote many of the rules for tech writers. From WFH (work from home) norms to hiring to compensation, the world is different now. Some of the changes are already obvious, others much less so. Andrew will take a deep dive into COVID’s implications for your career and suggest ways you can benefit. He’ll also field your questions and advise about specific situations, so come ready to ask questions.

About the Speaker

Andrew Davis recruits technical content developers in Silicon Valley.

He is a former software industry Technical Writer and has a reputation for both understanding and championing the role of content development. He recruits Technical Writers, Technical Trainers, Courseware Developers, Instructional Designers, and Technical Marketing Writers for challenging staff and contract roles.

Andrew enjoys helping those who communicate complex information get ahead by recognizing and refining their value to technology companies. He’s candid and connected and, just as importantly, he likes to help tech industry workers gain their independence and operate without intermediaries.

He’d be happy to recruit you (or recruit for you) if you want his help.
